Water Pump Assembly – Product Overview

The Water pump assy 1307100F0016 of Dongfeng Dignity IX5 model is the core component of the engine cooling system, responsible for driving the coolant to circulate in the engine block, radiator and heating system. Make sure the engine is maintained at the optimal operating temperature (usually 85-105℃). The following is its detailed technical description:1. Compatible with vehicle models and engines

Compatible models: Mainly used for Dongfeng Fengguang IX5 (2019-2022 models) and some models on the same platform (such as Fengguang 580), it is matched with a 1.5T turbocharged engine (model may be DK13-06 or similar).

Engine compatibility: Compatible with multiple 1.5L/1.6L engines under Dongfeng Sokon (DFSK). Specific compatibility needs to be confirmed through the vehicle's VIN code or the original factory parts catalog.

 Structural Design and materials

Overall structure: It adopts a centrifugal water pump design, consisting of an impeller, casing, bearings, water seal, pulley and drive shaft.

Impeller

Material: Aluminum alloy casting (balancing strength and heat dissipation) or engineering plastic (lightweight design), with the surface dynamically balanced to reduce vibration.

Blade shape: 6-8 backward-curved blades, optimizing hydrodynamic efficiency and reducing cavitation risk.

Shell: Made of cast iron or aluminum alloy, with internal flow channels designed to increase the flow rate of the coolant.

Bearings and Seals

Bearings: Double-row ball bearings or sliding bearings (with the bearing bush material being bronze alloy), capable of withstanding high-speed rotation (maximum speed approximately 6000 revolutions per minute) and axial/radial loads.

Sealing: Mechanical seals (dynamic ring + static ring + O-ring combination) are adopted, which can withstand high temperatures (-40℃ to 120℃) and chemical corrosion, and have a service life of over 100,000 kilometers.

The water pump gets its power from the engine’s crankshaft pulley. It uses a multi-ribbed belt—something like the 6PK1800 type—and the transmission ratio is around 1.5:1. This way, the water pump’s speed lines up with how the engine’s actually running.

How the Cooling Cycle Works

1. Suction Step

When the impeller spins, it creates negative pressure. That pressure pulls the cool coolant from the radiator into the pump body through the water inlet.

2. Pressurization Step

Centrifugal force pushes the coolant out toward the edge of the pump’s casing. By then, the pressure climbs to 1.2–1.5 bar, and the coolant gets sent to the engine block’s water channels through the outlet.

3. Controlling the Flow

It works together with the thermostat. When the engine’s just starting up (cold start), it only does a “small cycle”—meaning the coolant doesn’t go through the radiator. Once the water temperature hits the right level, it switches over to a “big cycle.”

4. Key Specs & Performance

  • Flow Rate: At idle, it moves about 30 liters per minute. When the engine’s going at high speed, that can jump to over 120 liters per minute—perfect for keeping a 1.5T engine cool.

  • Working Pressure: The system usually runs at 1.1–1.3 bar. The radiator cap keeps it at that pressure to stop the coolant from boiling.

  • Noise Level: It makes no more than 70 decibels (A) when running—so it meets the auto industry’s NVH standards.

5. Installation & Upkeep

Where It’s Installed

It’s mounted at the front of the engine, right near the crankshaft pulley. If you need to replace it, you’ll have to take off the front bumper or the engine skid plate first.

Tips for Keeping It in Good Shape

  • Replace the water pump every 60,000 to 80,000 km, or every two years—whichever comes first. It’s even better to replace it at the same time as the timing belt or chain.

  • Check the coolant level and how clean it is regularly. If you don’t, corrosion could make the impeller or seal go bad.

  • If you see coolant leaking, hear weird noises from the water pump (like a rustling sound from worn-out bearings), or notice the water temperature spiking, you need to get it checked out right away.

Failure modes and impacts

Common faults

Water seal aging: Coolant leaks from the drain hole at the bottom of the pump casing, causing the liquid level to drop.

Impeller corrosion: Long-term use of inferior coolant may cause blade perforation and reduce pump efficiency.

Abnormal noise from bearings: Insufficient lubrication or the intrusion of impurities can cause high-frequency noise, and in severe cases, it may lead to the seizure of the impeller.

Potential risk: The failure of the water pump may cause the engine to overheat, resulting in significant damage such as erosion of the movable cylinder and cylinder gasket, with repair costs reaching several thousand yuan.

Replacement precautions

At the same time, replace the water pump belt, tensioner pulley and coolant (it is recommended to use -45 ℃ ethylene glycol antifreeze).

When installing, it is necessary to ensure that the belt tension meets the standard (measured by a tensiometer, usually 40-60N · m).
