Over 200,000 orders placed within just 3 minutes! Xiaomi’s YU7 starts at 253,500 RMB, and Lei Jun says: “Receiving this many orders far exceeds our expectations.”
On the same day, Xiaomi officially announced the starting price of the YU7 at 253,500 RMB. According to Xiaomi, within just 3 minutes, pre-orders (with a 5,000 RMB deposit that becomes non-refundable after 7 days) exceeded 200,000 units, and within an hour, pre-orders surpassed 289,000 units. At the launch event, Lei Jun mentioned that the team reached a consensus on the pricing in just five minutes.
The initial sales figures for the YU7 have far surpassed those of Xiaomi’s first vehicle, the SU7. On the night of the SU7’s launch, Xiaomi Auto’s official Weibo posted that “over 10,000 pre-orders were placed within 4 minutes, and over 20,000 within 7 minutes.”
“The YU7 is Xiaomi’s first SUV and marks Xiaomi’s true entry into the core automotive market. We are facing the strongest competitors and the toughest challenges, but I remain extremely confident. I believe in the YU7’s product strength—it is not an ordinary or mediocre SUV, but a truly unique one.”
There were concerns that the YU7 launch might affect the pricing and sales of the previously released SU7. Lei Jun addressed this by saying, “The SU7 and YU7 each have their own dedicated customer base. Internally, we were worried that the release of the YU7 might impact new orders for the SU7. Initially, we expected about 10,000 new SU7 orders per month, but unexpectedly, SU7 orders have continued to rise. We have already raised our monthly forecast for the SU7 three times. Currently, new orders for the SU7 are about 13,000 to 14,000 per month. Although the YU7 is very popular, the SU7 is doing well too, and I remain very confident in the SU7.”
According to the Xiaomi Auto app, aside from the first batch of YU7 Max ready-to-deliver models, deliveries for other orders are scheduled to begin in August.
