Nowadays, most mainstream spin-on oil filters are equipped with a key component known as the Anti-Drain Back Valve.
Application Scenario
When the engine stops running, the engine oil will naturally flow back into the oil pan under the influence of gravity.

This check valve usually adopts a rubber diaphragm structure. When the engine is turned off, it will automatically seal the oil inlet of the filter.
Design Purpose
Its core function is to prevent engine oil from leaking out of the filter interior and the oil passages at the upper end of the engine (such as the valve train oil passages). In this way, when the engine starts next time, the oil pressure can be quickly established, and necessary lubrication can be provided to key components like the camshaft and valves within a few seconds, minimizing the wear problem caused by "dry start".
Core Components and Design Features
Canister/Housing
The outer shell is made of high-strength metal, and it houses the filter element inside. It can withstand the pressure and high temperature of the engine oil, ensuring the overall structural stability.
Filter Media
As the core component of the filter, it is usually made of synthetic fiber or cellulose folded paper. Its large filtration area can effectively trap impurity particles with a particle size of only 20-40 microns, while ensuring the smooth circulation of engine oil without affecting the lubrication efficiency.
Base Plate
It is a metal component located at the end of the filter, equipped with threaded mounting holes (sealing threads) that can fit and seal tightly with the engine block. The edge of the base plate is also distributed with oil inlets, allowing unfiltered dirty oil to enter the interior of the filter.
Gasket
It is a key rubber ring installed on the base plate. It can form a high-temperature and high-pressure resistant sealing structure between the filter and the engine block, completely preventing oil leakage.
End Discs
They are used to seal the upper and lower ends of the filter media inside the canister. They force the engine oil to flow through the filter media, preventing unfiltered oil from bypassing the media and entering the engine directly.
